Eye opening experience with daily herald

        Today in Holmes Hero's myself(Izabella Manka), Kelly Cortez, and Christina Sebastian were interviewed about our club by the Daily Herald! They asked us questions about why we are in the club, what things have you done in your group, have you done any fundraising, etc. As we were talking to the ladies from the Daily Herald they were in awe of the things we were doing and the meaning behind our club! Which was very cool to hear from someone outside of our school. We also discovered that we are the only school that the Daily Herald decided to interview. When the 3 of us heard her say this we all were a mix of shocked and excited. The experience overall was something that I was honored and thankful to be apart of! I hope that next year the club gets to be apart of even more of these type of things!

Today our group focused on getting organized with our funraiser that will be going on during school , we talked over what we need how much money and how we can get people attention to get interested for our funraiser . Some of group members will be making posters to put around the school while others will be reporting it on morning announcements .

Action plan! Week 3

Today in Holmes Heroes we worked on our action plan and we are gathering our thoughts about local hunger. As a group we talked about our questions and answers to incorporate our ideas into an action plan. 
We are coming up with ideas for fundraising in order to start with the issue of hunger.

With this action plan, we will be able to determine our strengths, weaknesses, and obstacles that we have to overcome in order to reach our goal of slowly ending local hunger in our area. 

Local Food Pantry Research Week 2

This week in Holmes Heroes, the 8th grade students in the local hunger group researched different topics. My group specifically researched local food pantries. We researched local food pantries to look for the different places we can donate food or volunteer time. 

Last week,we focused on asking questions, and curiosity. This week we discussed the questions we had and this is what we found, there were many different pantries in our area and some of them were churches such as Lutheran Church of the Cross and St. Edna, and others were Self Help Closet & Food Pantry and The Northwest Compass Inc. Why is curiosity so important? Week 1

As 8th graders we have been learning about the beauty of asking questions. From the time that we learn to talk we begin asking questions, but the real question is, how do questions make us more informed citizens? 

We ask questions because we are curious, and before we can move forward with our plan of action we need to ask questions to decide what we know and what we don't know. This week our local hunger group came together and asked as many questions as we can in six minutes and this is what we came up with...

The questions that we ask are meaningful and important to get to the bottom of the real issue of "Local Hunger". This upcoming week we are going to break off and choose a question that we have to answer and report to the group. Check back in next Friday to hear about our progress!

Our Mission

Hello! We are the Holmes Heroes and our mission is to end local hunger. Our group meets every Friday to discuss our plan to solve local hunger. We will post every week on Friday about what we have been doing in our club on that day! We have so many ideas and we are so excited to start sharing them with you!
